Now being in my 60th. year (!), I'm retired from music, enjoying a new career as the executive chef at my own small restaurant, and spending as much time as possible with our 4 grandchildren. Considerable illness (MG) has made it no longer possible for me to sing, but I continue to enjoy being the "old fart" in productions at our local university. My last piece was as Henry in "The Lion in Winter"; I'll do Prospero in "The Tempest" this coming spring. I would SO love to hear from you, at your convenience. Congrats on your world career...I never had any doubt, of course! If you talk to Suzanne, please give her my love, as well as my email address. I just recently learned that Carolyn Smith-Meyer died in 2003. Do you have info on any of our other partners in crime from Muenster? My love and very best wishes. Louis Welcher

Datum: Dienstag, 20 Juni, 2006 um 20:50:55 Kommentar: Geschätzte Frau Anthony, am 18. gab es in Wels ein höchst erfreuliches Wiedersehen und Wiederhören mit Ihnen als darstellerisch bezwingende, gesanglich überzeugende Senta. Am 22. Jänner 1988 (Premiere)erlebte ich Sie als Gräfin unter meinem Freund Hans Graf im Landestheater Salzburg. Ihre Diktion, Schönheit der Stimme und Gestaltung haben uns alle damals sehr beeindruckt. Wie schön, dass Sie sich die edle Mozart- Stimme bewahrt und die nötige Dramatik für Wagner dazugewonnen haben. Wie wohltuend, wenn die Ballade wirklich als solche gesungen wird (Beginn!)und der hochdramatische, hohe Schluss so unforciert, überwältigend kommt. "UNSER" Orchester (ich bin der Vizepräsident des Vereines der Freunde des Mozarteumorchesters)hätte noch mehr leisten können, hätte es einen sensibleren Dirigenten gehabt. Wir hoffen auf Ivor Bolton, der einmal gerne in Wels Wagner dirigieren möchte. Ich habe übrigens eine gute Aufnahme des 3. und 4. Aktes der Salzburger Figaro Premiere ( Blendend alle, besonders Kreider und Jennings!) wenn Si daran Interesse haben, bitte um Nachricht. Nochmals herzlichen Dank für diesen Abend. Wir haben selten eine so gefühlvoll vorgetragene Ballade gehört und wir sind sehr beeinduckt von der Kombination aus stimmlicher Begabung, sängerischem Können und schauspielerischem Talent. I totally concur with the concert review written by Dr. Gianakaris (Kalamazoo Gazette, November 20, 2005), a fine gentleman, an honest critic, and a true music and concert aficionado. The entire evening has left a lasting impression. It was simply grand, the entire ensemble, the orchestra and Maestra Simone Young.
